Time had seemed to go still while she’d been kept waiting in the dark hallways of the Initiative’s abandoned headquarters during Spike’s chip-ectomy procedure.
It didn’t seem to be moving much faster now that they were both back in Buffy’s darkish basement and he was still out. She wanted to be there when he woke up and to make sure that he was okay.
She was dozing off when he opened his eyes, groaning. “Buffy?”
“Hey. How are you?”
“Head’s heavy,” he mumbled. “Did they fix it?”
She took his hand. “No. The chip is gone, Spike. It was time.”
